Mrs. McCombs

Welcome to second grade! I am thrilled to have your student in my classroom this year. This will be my fourth year teaching. I have taught for Sanger ISD and Glen Rose ISD. I graduated from Western Governors University with my Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education.
I have been married to my husband for 12 years. We have 3 children: Dustin is 12 years old, Zoey is 8 years old and Jacob is 3 years old.
We are going to have a wonderful year!

What we are learning!
Math
6th Six Weeks
TEKS RS Unit 08: Time (7 Days)
TEKS RS Unit 09: Linear Measurement (18 Days)
Unit 10: We will practice multiplying and dividing in real-life situations!
This means we'll learn how to use multiplication and division to solve word problems, figure out how many groups or how many in each group, and decide which operation to use based on the context of the problem.
Unit 11: We will explore fractions and what they really mean!
This means we'll learn how to understand fractions as parts of a whole, compare them, and explain their value using models and number lines. We'll also learn how to use fractions in everyday situations.
Unit 12: We will learn how to be smart with money!
This means we'll explore how people earn, spend, save, and donate money. We'll learn how to make decisions about saving and spending, and understand the value of setting financial goals.

Unit 10: Living in a World of Literacy (10 Days)

Unit 09: We will practice reading and analyzing persuasive texts!
This means we’ll learn how authors try to convince us by using strong reasons, evidence, and powerful language. We’ll also practice writing our own persuasive pieces to share our opinions.
Unit 10: We will celebrate everything we’ve learned as readers and writers!
This means we’ll build on all our reading and writing skills to explore different kinds of texts, share our ideas clearly, and show what it means to live in a world full of literacy!
Science
6th Six Weeks
Unit 08: Investigating Structures and Behaviors of Organisms (17 Days) CONTINUED
Unit 09: Investigating Life Cycles (10 Days)
Unit 08: We will explore how animals and plants are built and how they behave!
This means we’ll investigate the body parts and behaviors that help living things survive in their environments. We’ll learn how animals use their body structures—like beaks, claws, or fur—and how plants have parts that help them grow and live. We’ll also act like scientists by observing, asking questions, and making predictions as we learn.
Unit 09: We will discover how living things grow and change!
This means we’ll explore the life cycles of animals and plants—from birth to adulthood. We’ll learn that all living things go through stages, and we’ll compare how different organisms grow and change over time. We’ll use observations and models to show what we learn!
